Configuring a Chromecast from a Chromebook

Typically when you get a new Chromecast and need to set it up you use an Android device with the Google Home app to get it done. That always sat a little wrong with me. This is a Chromecast after all, shouldn't I be able to set it up with my Chromebook? Well, it turns out you can.

First things first, make sure your Chromecast is plugged in and ready to be set up.
Where we are going we don't need the Google Home app!
At this point you will need to open a tab on your Chromebook and navigate to chrome://cast. From here you will see any other Chromecast devices that are on your network as well as the one we are wanting to setup at the top of the page.
There you are.
Go ahead and click where it says "Click to set up" then follow the on-screen instructions to verify the code on your Chromecast, give it a name, and connect it to your WI-FI network.

From there you will be taken back to the screen that shows all of the Cast devices on your network, which should include your newly set-up Chromecast.

You can also return to chrome://cast and click on the config button at the top right of any Chromecast tile to adjust settings.
Click the Cog to Adjust Settings
In the settings menu you can change the name of the Chromecast, the WI-FI network, the time format, and language as well as reboot or factory reset.

Chromecasts are great devices that work great with Chromebooks. Let me know in the comments below if I missed anything, or if there is anything else you would like to learn about Chromecasts.
